Faith Through Miscarriage, Business & Buying A Home
A conversation between Christian & Abigail McPherson, guests; and Devaughn Williamson, host.
On the latest podcast episode, Christian and Abigail open up about their faith journey and the only word that can describe it is WOW. Christian grew up with a single mom that worked multiple jobs to ensure he was able to get a quality, faith-filled education. Without fail, there was always a list of unpaid tuition bills that would be supernaturally resolved. It was sometimes through unexpected scholarships, or an anonymous donor paying the full tuition. Even when it came to food or a new car, God always provided. Growing up, Christian had a very good understanding of what it meant to live by faith and watch God come through every time.
Abigail saw her faith in action when she felt led to leave Ohio, where all her friends, family and comfort was, to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma to go to Oral Roberts University. As a result of that step of faith, she met her future husband (Christian). Since then, they have built a family built on faith and a life committed to walking it out together. Their first big step of faith was purchasing their first home. Abigail shares how this step of faith really stretched her faith muscle. In the process of looking for a home and realizing they won't have enough money for a down payment, they decided to sow a large financial seed trusting that God will provide the resources they needed. And HE DID!
With their faith, they also allowed it to work in their love story. Christian and Abigail both prayed for each other - intentionally. Chrisitian was very specific about his wife - he prayed that she could play basketball and ping pong. Guess what? Abigail plays both of them! Even through their ups and downs, they reminded themselves of one truth - God is faithful. In 2021, they began the house hunting process, and put their faith to work for a specific home, that was in a particular neighbourhood, and had a corner lot. They ended up finding the house that met their exact criteria. But when they found it, the house already had eight offers on it. But that didn’t deter them. They kept putting their faith to work.
They ended up putting in an offer slightly above the asking price. In addition, they prayed and trusted God to do miraculous. When they were about to finalize it all, they were prompted by the Holy Spirit to be a bit creative and add a personal note with it that mentioned that they attended the same church as the seller. Despite having eight offers, Chrsitian & Abigail’s offer was accepted not because of them being the highest bidder, but because it was the undeniable favor of God. As they noted “what felt impossible happened in just a weekend. This is something that take people months to complete”.
But their faith journey didn’t stop there. After living out the dream of buying their dream house, they faced one of the hardest news - suffering a miscarriage. It was one of those moments that shakes your faith to the core. The kind that makes you wonder “God, why”? They found themselves wrestling with deep, real faith questions when things don’t go the way you expect.
Despite the tragedy, they clung to hope. They decided to lean on each other and remember their “faith landmarks” in their lives. It is the same concept of the Israelites in the Bible when they would build altars to remember God’s faithfulness. Several months later, Abigail and Christian welcomed their son into the world as a testament of God’s faithfulness to them.
The coolest part of all of this is the teamwork Christian and Abigail embody. When one of them feels shaky in faith, the other steps up strong. Whether it’s trusting God for a second child or navigating the ups and downs of self-employment, they’ve created a rhythm of praying together, listening for God’s direction, fasting if led to do so, and always holding each other accountable to stay rooted in faith.
Christian recalls the moment he decided it was time to leave his 9-5 job, and start his own business. It certainly was a leap of faith. He had no back up plan, just trust that God would provide. This faith step called for a lot of prayer, YouTube tutorials, and trust in God. Meanwhile, Abigail stepped into the challenging role of a stay at mom. Together, they gave up the comfort of a steady paycheck and embraced a season that demanded sacrifice, discipline, and unwavering belief.
Christian didn't just say “God will provide,” and sit back. He matched his faith with wisdom and hustle. He put in months of learning SEO, lead generation, and business strategy.
Looking back, the couple mentioned that some days were harder than others. They recalled when there were days that the inbox was empty and bills were beginning to pile up. Times when it was February 28th and March looked like a mystery. But every time, without fail, God showed up right on time. Month after month, their needs were met. Some months it was just enough, and others had overflow. But God came through every time.
As Christian and Abigail reflect, they can confidently say that God honors faith backed by obedience. Their business is thriving, their family is flourishing, and their faith is stronger than ever.
Christian and Abigail’s story reminds us that faith isn’t just about believing God can, but trusting that He will. Whether you’re stepping into the unknown, starting something new, or just trying to hold on, let their journey be proof that when you give God your “yes”, He will take care of the rest.
