Trusting God Even Without Clarity
A conversation between Geoffrey Graff, guest; and Devaughn Williamson, host.
Trusting God requires trust even when you don't have all the answers. Geoffrey Graff’s story is one of fatih, uncertainty and ultimately God’s provision. Geoffrey grew up in a long line of pastors, but had no desire to follow in their footsteps. As a matter of fact, Geoffrey wanted to be an architect. But God had other plans. At 17, he had a powerful moment where the Word of God became real to him and he knew he was called to make it come alive to others.
Fast forward, Geoffrey goes to pastor his home church and things are booming. The youth ministry is thriving, lives are changing, and everything is going great. But deep down Geoffrey and his wife, Eden, can’t help but notice a tug on their hearts for something different. It didn’t make sense because everything seemed perfect. They were in a good place financially, and yet they knew God was calling them to leave it all behind without a step by step plan of what’s next.
Geoffrey is open about his struggles. He mentioned how he had to balance work and rest, overcoming burnout, and truly understanding that his worth isn’t determined by how hard he grinds but in his relationship with God. He goes on to share wisdom from his dad about taking breaks which emphasizes that trusting God with our time leads to greater blessings than overworking ourselves. The idea is simple - take a day off every week, an extra day every six weeks and a vacation every six months. Why? Because trusting God with our time is just as important as trusting God with our finances. If we believe giving 10% of our money to God blesses the rest, why wouldn’t giving him a day of rest do the same? Faith is believing that resting in God’s presence is just as powerful as working for His purpose.
When Geoffrey and Eden stepped out in faith, God’s provision showed up in the most unexpected ways. They stepped out in faith to plant a church with no money and no people, and God showed up. On the very first day of studying another church, a random guest speaker said Fayetteville needs a church and immediately handed him $12,000. Over the next few months, more unexpected donations started rolling in, and people started committing to the vision before Geoffrey even moved. It was clear that God was making a way.
Geoffrey shared that one of his biggest takeaways was to stop waiting for perfect clarity before stepping out in faith. Too often, we sit still, afraid to move because we don’t have all the answers. Trusting God means taking the first step even when we can’t see the whole path. Geoffrey encourages anyone wrestling with a big decision to trust that God is their Shepherd. Walking in faith isn’t about having a perfect plan. It’s about knowing that even if we make mistakes, God will guide us back.
One of the most powerful moments in his journey came when he was praying over Psalm 23. He realized that even if he made a wrong move, God would guide him back. That revelation changed everything.
Geoffrey learned that security isn’t in a steady job, familiar surroundings, or even a well thought-out-plan. True security is in God alone. At the end of the day, Geoffrey’s story is a powerful reminder that when we truly trust God, he provides in ways we could never imagine. If you’re in a season of uncertainty, and wondering what’s next, take heart because God’s plan for your life is greater than what you see right now.
If Geoffrey’s story moved you, consider sharing it with someone who needs encouragement. And I encourage you to partner with Faith Ignite to help bring more stories of hope to the world. Together, we can spread messages of God's faithfulness to those who need it most.
