You Get To Test God
A conversation between Rebecca Olson, guest; and Devaughn Williamson, host.
Rebecca Olsson’s story is one of radical transformation—honestly, it’s hard not to be inspired by it. She grew up without stability, spending part of her teenage years homeless and in the foster care system. By the time she was in her early 20s, she was a single mom, surviving on food stamps, daycare assistance, and government aid. Life was hard—really hard—and money had a strong emotional grip on her. She admits that it was a “litmus test” for whether her trust was in God or in finances.
But everything began to shift when Rebecca had a life-altering encounter with God at age 21. She went from not believing in Him to fully surrendering her life—and even in her financial lack, she chose to trust Him. One moment that stands out is when she gave her entire $232 paycheck as an offering. She was barely getting by, yet she called it her “widow’s mite” and gave anyway, believing that if God could use someone like her, He could use her for something great.
And He did.
From that act of obedience and trust, God opened doors. Starting her firm, High Tower Accounting & Tax, wasn’t just about business—it was about obedience. She trusted God not only with her finances but with her future. And the journey wasn’t easy. She wrestled with doubt, wrestled with decisions, and leaned hard on mentors who reminded her: “You don’t need all the answers. You just need to pray, trust, and move when God says move.”
High Tower Accounting & Tax began literally at Rebecca’s dining room table —and now it serves over 1,200 clients with a full team and multiple locations. But she didn’t stop there. Rebecca went on to start youth scholarships, nonprofit advocacy, special-needs programs in schools, and now she’s developing a whole business complex to serve small businesses—all while staying deeply grounded in her faith.
Rebecca gave when it didn’t make sense. She believed the principle that you can’t outgive God—and lived it. And through cheerful giving and faith-filled obedience, she saw God open doors no man could.
She didn’t separate her business from her faith. For Rebecca, the two are one. God isn’t someone she leaves at church—He goes with her into every boardroom, every client meeting, and even into how she decorates her office. Her business became a reflection of the God who lives in her. She’s not just building a company—she’s building the Kingdom through her calling.
Rebecca describes it as one of the hardest things she's ever done—not because of the work itself, but because of what it revealed about her character, integrity, and even her ability to love people despite how they may treat her. stand out
She compares it to ministry, where you give your all out of obedience to God, not for personal gain. And like in ministry, the challenges are real—betrayals, setbacks, fear—but so is the refinement. God uses those moments to shape who we are.
Rebecca shares how deeply personal this journey is for her. As a tax resolution expert, she works with clients who are facing financial devastation. She sees their panic, their fear—and she knows it well. She’s been there. She’s bounced checks, mismanaged money, and panicked over bills. But through it all, she’s learned to pause and ask God for wisdom. And without fail, He provides the roadmap.
One of the most powerful things she discusses is how money can still be a “god” in your life if you’re emotionally controlled by it—whether you're scared of losing it or overly excited when you gain it. That emotional response is a litmus test. And the antidote? Not just faith, but perfect love—a deeper trust in God’s love and timing. When your heart is aligned with Him, peace begins to replace panic.
Rebecca’s encouragement is real and raw: if you're starting a business or waiting for your breakthrough, trust God's timing. Steward what you have well—whether it's a small paycheck or a million-dollar idea. And if you’ve never tithed before, she challenges you to step out and do it—not out of obligation, but in faith, trusting that God will show up.
She closes with a simple but profound message to her younger self and to every listener: God loves you deeply, and only He can fill the void in your heart. The world offers promises it can’t keep—but when you dare to trust God, especially in your finances, He proves Himself faithful every time.
If Rebecca’s story inspired you, consider sharing it with someone who needs encouragement. And I encourage you to partner with Faith Ignite to help bring more stories of hope to the world. Together, we can spread messages of God's faithfulness to those who need it most.
