Give God Your Yes

A conversation between Jonas Tucker-Alleyne, guest; and Devaughn Williamson, host.

Jonas’s story is a great example of faith in the midst of struggle, and perseverance. It resembles what can truly happen when you say yes to God. Over the years, he’s learned to keep his “yes” on the table at all times to trust God and submit to His plans even when it seems hard. Every time he did, there was a reward for his obedience. On the podcast episode, Jonas recalls incredible moments of God provision such as having his tuition covered for college, getting a new car, and getting his credit cards paid off. These blessings served as signs that God provides and is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.

There were tough seasons. At one point, Jonas found himself donating plasma just to get money. He went from sleeping on a friend’s couch to landing a job at Target, where he worked exhausting hours trying to provide for his wife. Deep down, he knew something had to change. After a lot of prayer, an unexpected job opportunity opened up in Dallas. The interesting part is that Jonas stopped applying for jobs and told God that he would have to provide a job if wanted him to move. They followed God with their “yes” all the way to Dallas. In the transition, their house sale fell through which left Jonas and his wife with two mortgages.

Instead of panicking, Jonas relied on the same faith that carried him to this point in his life. Month after month, God showed up and provided the funds needed to navigate this new reality. Fast forward, Jonas found himself in a season of abundance where he was making more money than he ever had before. However, God instructed him to be a faithful steward of his resources. As a result, Jonas and his wife agreed to trust God and received the blessing of their obedience - seeing a $20,000 debt paid off overnight.

At this point, Jonas was living the American dream where had a great job that was paying him well, and lots of time with his wife and daughter. But in the midst of that, Jonas felt a nudge from God telling him to “be ready to let this go”. This was one time his yes was definitely not on the table. Jonas reasoned with God and provided suggestions as to all the good they can do with the money he was making.

Not too long afterwards, his job was taken away. It was not because of performance, but simply because the company no longer needed that role. But even before that, God was whispering to Jonas what would happen in preparation for the change that up ahead.

It was during a family vacation that Jonas was noticing a similar theme from those closest to him - going back into full-time ministry. Jonas hesitated because he didn’t believe it could pay the bills. But after prayer, the Lord made it clear that this is what He was preparing Jonas for.

Now it all started to make sense. His years in corporate America were not in vain. God had been equipping him with leadership, HR skills, and crisis management which is everything he would need for ministry. The Lord ended up leading Jonas and his family back to Eagle Sky Christian Camp - a place he worked earlier in his career. This time around, Jonas was no young immature camp counselor. But he was now a refined, experienced professional ready to do the Lord’s work.

One of the biggest lessons Jonas learned about faith is that it isn’t passive and waits for things to happen. Instead it is about you being an active participant in what God is doing. The moral of Jonas's life is to always give God your “yes”. When God asks you to step out in faith, know that He’s already prepared everything you need. It may not come the way you expect it, but He’s got it covered. Our job is to simply say “yes” and trust.

If Jonas’s story moved you, consider sharing it with someone who needs encouragement. And I encourage you to partner with Faith Ignite to help bring more stories of hope to the world. Together, we can spread messages of God's faithfulness to those who need it most.
